Sports massage is typically used before, during & after athletic events. The purpose of sports massage is to prepare the athlete for peak performance, relieve swelling, drain away fatigue, reduce muscle tension, promote flexibility and prevent injury.
This type of massage can be useful for anyone with chronic pain, injury or range of motion issues.
A number of techniques can be combined including Swedish, deep tissue, myofascial release and both passive & active stretching. Swedish massage stimulates circulation of blood & lymph while myofascial trigger point release breaks down adhesions & improves muscle tone. Stretching in combination with joint mobilisation can assist in improving range of motion.
